Award-winning publication: In-amplifier mid-infrared supercontinuum generation
Published in: Optics Letters
Abstract
Jean-Christophe Gauthier's research has led to a first: the generation of a mid-infrared supercontinuum in an erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber amplifier. This simplified technique also increases energy efficiency in a target area: the mid-infrared or other spectral ranges. In terms of possible applications, this type of laser source could be used to counter climate change and quantitatively monitor air emissions in real time. The tool could also be used in microscopy, cellular imaging and medicine to detect skin cancer.
