Award-winning publication: Procedure for the Selection and Validation of a Calibration Model

Published in: Journal of Analytical Toxicology

Abstract

Several mathematical models can be used to represent a given reality, and it can be challenging to determine in advance which is the correct model. In their article, Brigitte Desharnais and her colleagues provide chemists with a completely automated statistical method for selecting and validating calibration models. These are used when determining the concentration of a chemical substance in a sample, for example, the concentration of fentanyl in an individual's blood. Using the correct calibration model can prevent measurement errors of up to 154% of the actual concentration.
