Abstract

The impact of humanity on the environment is accelerating the evolution of a number of species. Vincent Fugère's research explores whether this acceleration stems from the intensification of natural selection linked to human activity. Surprisingly, his findings reveal that selection is slight among affected populations, with the exception of certain commercially fished species. This may be explained, in part, by the trend among researchers to study species that fare well in habitats that have been modified by humans. The main impact of the work will be to guide future research and gather the data required to better understand human-induced evolution.
