Abstract
In the face of climate change and habitat degradation caused by human activity, understanding and predicting ecosystem responses to disruptions constitutes a major social challenge. For example, marine ecosystems are the only source of protein for some one billion people, mainly in developing countries. Claire Jacquet's research identified the structural properties that enable ecosystems to recover from a disturbance. Her work could help elucidate the conditions that lead to mass species extinction.
